G-TAP M Series

Traffic access and scale for your needs

High-Density Passive Fiber Optical Network TAPs

The G-TAP® M Series is a modular family of medium and high-density passive fiber-optical network TAPs. Passive fiber TAP technology requires no power source, no software and no special patch cords. By splitting the light optically, full-duplex fiber-optic links can be monitored without impacting network traffic. The G-TAP M Series fiber TAP has solutions for 1Gb, 10Gb, 25Gb, 40Gb, 100Gb and 400Gb networks, including 40Gb and 100Gb BiDi, unidirectional and 4x10Gb/25Gb/100Gb breakout.

Understanding Network TAPs

A network TAP (test access point) is a monitoring device that mirrors the traffic that is passing between network nodes. A TAP is a hardware device inserted at a specific point in the network to monitor specific data. As an essential part of the Gigamon Deep Observability Pipeline, network TAPs acquire traffic to provide the visibility required to secure, monitor and manage your enterprise's network infrastructure continuously and efficiently.

How Taps Work

A TAP monitors one network connection and generally comes with four ports: network A port, network B port, monitor A port and monitor B port. TAPs allow network traffic to flow through the device’s network A and B ports uninterrupted, while simultaneously copying the same data to the monitor A and B ports. The monitor ports can feed tools such as VoIP recording devices, network intrusion detection and prevention systems, network analytics, protocol analyzers, packet sniffers and traffic aggregation/packet broker systems.
